At Estoria Cooperatives, our history makes us who we are. From humble beginnings to becoming the largest provider of senior housing solutions in Minnesota, we’ve come a long way. Take a walk down memory lane with us to see how Estoria Cooperatives came to be.
Humble Beginnings
The year was 1978 when a new concept hit the market in Edina, Minnesota. This was the concept of a senior housing cooperative. The country had never seen something like this before, but it was an immediate hit. Ebenezer Development had struck gold, and there was no turning back. This first location was called 7500 York Cooperative and it was built to allow seniors to age in place. Offering an improved living experience, residents were empowered to have a voice in the management of their community.
Trust the Members
Allen Luther "Lute" Molberg had come up with this concept, and he would serve as President of Ebenezer from 1960 to 1981. Later, in 1984 with Roy Johnson at the helm as the general manager of 7500 York Cooperative, Johnson would say:
"Trust the member-residents to do the right thing"
This statement attests to the belief that the member-residents are the kind of people who will properly handle their business if they are just allowed to live the way that they want to live.
A Modern Day Success
The tradition that Estoria Cooperatives began all of those decades ago continues to this day. As of 2021, we are the largest provider of senior housing solutions in Minnesota. We have spread our wings far and wide to attempt to provide housing to every senior who wants it in the state. Most importantly, we have maintained our high-quality standards for through all of our developments.
The goal remains the same even as the years and culture change. By far the most important thing to us is to have the opportunity to provide people with what they need as far as their housing is concerned.
